This simple but addictive puzzle game challenges you to find the name of a British city, town, village or hamlet. The place-names are in alphabetical order, and each guess helps you close in on the right answer by letting you know whether the answer is before or after your guess in the alphabet. With over 40,000 recognised place-names across Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and the Isle of Man, based on authoritative Ordnance Survey gazetteer data, you can use your knowledge of places nationwide to focus in on the target toponym. Your guesses will be highlighted on a map, helping you learn about the country's geography as you play, and the more you play, the higher your scores can get. At first, the game chooses from a selection of well-known places, but every guess you make is added to that pool, so the game changes the more you play it.

For some reason, OS updates can occasionally delete the record of places that have been guessed. I therefore recommend that users save their guesses to a text file from time to time (using the 'Copy guesses' menu option to get the guesses onto the clipboard); this backup can then be used to restore the guesses (via 'Paste guesses from clipboard') if they should become lost.
