Berdasarkan hadis-hadis yang telah diriwayatkan, terdapat empat puluh empat nama para sahabat RA yang pernah menyampaikan kepada kita hadis- hadis mengenai Imam Mahdi, seperti yang mereka pernah dengar daripada Nabi SAW sendiri. Sebagian mereka adalah merupakan sahabat utama Baginda SAW, yaitu orang-orang yang sudah mendapat jaminan syurga daripada Rasulullah SAW. Ada yang meriwayatkan sebuah hadis dan banyak juga yang meriwayatkan beberapa buah hadis mengenai Imam Mahdi dari Rasulullah SAW.

Ada yang meriwayatkan sebuah hadis dari Rasulullah SAW mengenai Imam Mahdi, ada yang banyak, dan selain dari itu, ada yang bercerita mengenai Imam Mahdi berdasarkan kasyaf/ilham yang mereka terima daripada sisi Allah. Kasyaf/ilham ini jelas dapat dilihat jika kita rajin meneliti dan menghalusi kata-kata para sahabat RA ini, tanpa terburu-buru menolaknya.

Perkabaran ini adalah tambahan daripada apa yang telah diberitakan oleh Rasulullah SAW kepada mereka sebelumnya. Hal ini tidak boleh sekali-kali memvonis mereka berlebihan atau sebagainya dalam penerangan mereka. Hal ini dikarenakan mereka memang mendapat ilmu seperti yang demikian itu lalu mereka sampaikan pula kepada generasi tabiin, dan seterusnya sampai kepada kita hari ini.

Jumlah mereka yang banyak, memang jika dilihat dari segi rawi dan syarat bisa mutlak menjadi mutawatir derajat haditsnya, memang sudah lebih dari cukup untuk kita mengisytiharkannya sebagai mutawatir mutlak. Hanya membicarakan soal ini adalah soal furuk dalam ilmu tauhid, maka tidak perlu berbuat demikian. Namun jika ada pihak yang mau berbuat demikian, dipersilakanlah.
