The Environmental Protection Area of the Right Whale (APABF) located on the southern coast of Santa Catarina has over 130 km of coastline, abrangindo nine municipalities from the south of the island of Santa Catarina to the Balneario Corner. Among these municipalities is Garopaba, which has campuses of the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina (IFSC) with courses in Tourism, Information Technology, Management, Biotechnology and Environment.

In the laboratory of Environment and Geomatics (MAGE), used for various courses and for research and technological extension campus was developed in a collaborative tool mapping sightings of right whales in APABF. The tool combines knowledge of the areas that the campus operates with the objective of strengthening tourism in Santa Catarina south coast.

A little planning before you leave home to enjoy the pleasure of watching the whales on the coast can improve and this experience. That's the idea of the Web App http://baleia.info with simple layout multiplatform tool intended as a guide on your mobile to the observation planning whales. You will find maps and tables with the latest sightings of whales. For this, the tool has a function to extend the cooperation of all in the area of APABF, you you can also enter their own observations and share with other observers.

There are a lot of places along the Santa Catarina coast to see whales, many of these places are on trails in the Environmental Protection Area of the Right Whale.
