ClinicBMI is an easy to use Body Mass Index calculator for weight control Clinicians, Therapists, Weight-Watchers™ and Slimming World™ group leaders, and for anyone who works or helps others to move toward being a healthier weight.
* Features
ClinicBMI...
... accepts both imperial and metric input values
... converts to other units easily
... calculates the current BMI regardless of input units
... determines the weight change necessary to achieve a healthier BMI
... calculates a minimum safe timescale within which to affect the desired weight change
* ClinicBMI is flexible and easy to use
If your clients tell you their height using feet and inches instead of metres, and their weight in stones and pounds instead of kilograms, no problem! You don't have to get a calculator out or go onto the web to do conversions because with ClinicBMI, you can even have a mixture of both imperial and decimal, e.g. height in inches and weight in kilograms! ClinicBMI accepts values in any combination and calculates the BMI without any fuss.
You can also change between imperial and metric at any time to do quick conversions of the values you've entered, e.g. for your records. You can work with whatever units you or your clients are used to, e.g. kilograms, stones and pounds, or just pounds for weight, and metres, feet and inches, or just inches for height.
ClinicBMI always calculates the BMI regardless of the units, doing the conversions in the background so that you don't have to.
* Guidance on safe weight change and timescales
ClinicBMI also gives you the clinical classification for the weight - “underweight”, “within guidelines”, “overweight”, “obese”, or “morbidly obese” - and on the Targets screen, some very basic guidance as to what weight change is recommended to achieve a healthier BMI, and the shortest length of time that it would generally be considered safe to make the weight change in. In other words, ClinicBMI calculates and offers a guideline regarding minimum number of weeks that you should allow to make your desired weight change.
Slower weight change is always better unless you are advised differently by a medical practitioner. The limit on how fast we might aim to lose or gain weight is important because of giving our bodies ample time to adjust to changes. Things such as the metabolising of fats and skin stretching or shrinkage can't be rushed, especially if we want to avoid the damage to muscle tissue and our overall health. Slower weight changes are healthier and shown to be more sustainable, especially when accompanied by balanced exercise.
Please remember that it is important to seek medical and dietary advice when wanting to make significant changes to your weight. Your doctor will almost certainly encourage you to live with a healthier weight, but they may also have essential dietary advice for you that takes your age, gender, any medical conditions that you've experienced, and your medical history into account.
* ClinicBMI is Free
You can download ClinicBMI as often as you like and to any number of devices.
ClinicBMI does not contain any adverts or nags, and does not require any special permissions on your phone or tablet.
ClinicBMI was created out of a personal need to have an application that would calculate BMI using metric or imperial, without me having to do conversions myself, and then give me a guideline for a safe time-frame for weight loss or gain, all at a glance. I'm sharing it because I think others may also find it useful in their clinics and consulting rooms.
