Shikshak Bharati was established in Mumbai on August 6, 2005 in presence of the Ex. Education Ministers Amrishbhai Patel and late Madhukarrao Chaudhari with its motto as "for the right of education and for the honour of teachers." It was Mahatma Phule who first demanded the right to education. His wife Savitribhai Phule became the first female teacher and first female principal. Fatima B Shaikh was her colleague. Shikshak Bharati intends to pursue the right to education on their path. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar ensured that the right to education is assured under the Constitution itself. Shikshak Bharati believes that the right to education can't be achieved without teachers being treated with dignity. Shikshak Bharati has taken inspiration from Nai Talim of Mahatma Gandhi, Shikshan Vichaar of Sane Guruji, the principle of social justice propounded by Shahu Maharaj and the thoughts of Raja Rammohan Roy, Sayyed Ahmed Khan, Maulana Aazad.

Kapil Patil was the founder president of Shikshak Bharati. Now, Ashok Belsare is leading the organization as its president. Today, Shikshak Bharati has reached every district of the State and received recognition of the state government.

The organization has reached different strata of the society through its various programs and social work like - its agitation demanding salary for teachers on day one of the next month, six months maternity leave for female teachers, justice for Vasti Shala teachers, reducing exam stress of students, change in State Board curriculum on the lines of CBSE, additional FSI for schools in Mumbai slums, rehabilitation of schools affected by deluge, teachers literary meet, Savitribai Phule-Fatima Shaikh awards.
