Responsáveis por algumas das levadas mais animadas do sertanejo
universitário, como "Pode Chorar", "De Tanto Te Querer", "Voa Beija
Flor", "Querendo Te Amar", "Amo Noite E Dia", entre outras, os goianos Jorge
& Mateus, da cidade de Itumbiara, interior de Goiás, ganharam projeção
nacional e, hoje, são considerados uma das principais duplas sertanejas do
Brasil.

Foi através de um amigo em comum, em 2005, que Jorge, estudante
de Direito que participava, sozinho, de muitos festivais de música, e Mateus,
que cursava agronomia e que também se apresentava em festas e festivais
de música, tiveram a oportunidade de cantarem juntos em um churrasco de
amigos. A sintonia foi tão forte, que os músicos passaram a fazer shows como
dupla. A primeira apresentação foi em 26 de maio de 2005, numa boate da
cidade de Itumbiara para um público universitário.

Após o primeiro show, Jorge & Mateus resolveram gravar um CD
independente, na garagem da casa de Mateus, com algumas composições
próprias e novas roupagens de clássicos da música sertaneja. O repertório
agradou e a agenda de apresentações aumentou. Com isso, a gravadora
Universal Music ficou conhecendo o trabalho da dupla e, em 2007, resultou na
gravação do CD e DVD "Ao Vivo Em Goiânia".

A repercussão do "Ao Vivo Em Goiânia", produzido por Pinócchio e com
a direção de áudio de Ivan Miazato, foi tão imediata, que a dupla, além de ver
o seu primeiro grande sucesso, a canção "Pode Chorar', estourar por todo o
Brasil, ganhou disco de ouro. Os versos "pode chorar, mas eu não volto pra
você/ pode chorar, você não vai me convencer/ pode chorar, você se lembra
o quanto eu chorei por você?" logo caíram no gosto dos fãs de sertanejo
universitário
