Alphabet
You do not need to speak Arabic to study with khatt, and even this phrase has been used for a number of languages including Persian, and Urdu. But you need closeness with the letters, so in this first tutorial, before starting to learn calligraphy or "beautiful writing", we need to learn to write.
The Arabic and Latin alphabets come from the same source that is, the Phoenician alphabet. Therefore they have in common, but they are also very different in other respects. Here are some of the differences:

Arabic writing is written from right to left.
There are 28 letters, but many of them are distinguished by dots, so in fact there are only 18 letters for 28 voices. It becomes much less to be studied when we look at the letters in detail.
No vowels; the vowel sound is represented by a diacritic system that will be described in the next lesson. Often we do not show this sound at all. In khatt, they can be added for additional decorative effects, or can be completely forgotten.
No hyphens. A word must end on the same line as the word prefix.
Writing letters do not use capital letters. Instead, their change of form changes depending on their position in the eye (beginning, middle, end). This sounds more complicated than it really is, because some letters can change dramatically. Some have only one form.
