The Kusaal is a member of the Niger-Congolese, Atlantico-Congolese, Voltaic-Congolese, North, Gur, Gur central, North, Oti-Volta, West, Southeast linguistic family. The most related languages ​​are Dagbani and Mampruli, but Kusaal is also related to Frafra (also known as Ninkarè and Gurune / Gurenne) and Mooré.
There are two dialects of kusaal: “eastern kusaal”, also called “agole kusaal”, which is spoken only in Ghana, in the eastern part of the kusaalophone region, and located east of the Nakambé river , then the “kusaal de l'Ouest”, also called “kusaal mondé”, which is spoken in the western part of kusaal territory in Ghana and beyond the border with Burkina Faso, and located between the Nazinon rivers and Nakambé. Kusaal is classified as follows: ‘Niger-Congo, Atlantic-Congo, Volta-Congo, North, Gur, Central, Northern, Oti-Volta, Western, Southeast, Kusaal’. The language is most closely related to Dagbani and Mampruli, but is also closely related to Frafra (also known by the names Ninkare or Gurune / Gurenne) and Mooré.
