Search to identify the plant collected with the recognition of key families and genera native arboreal vegetation present in all domains of Brazil.

This key includes all families and genera of arboreal different forest vegetation types (DBH ≥ 5 cm) and open (bp savannas, steppes) (diameter ≥ 5 cm at the level of 30 cm above the ground) from different regions of Brazil. The same is designed only for vegetative characters, especially observable in the branches and leaves.

The Plant Identification key is the work of a life of Rodrigo Polisel. It has been designed and developed since 2008, and has since been tested thousands of times in the field for professionals and students from all over Brazil.

Our intention is that this material is its first support in the identification of plants in the field. So before seeking to identify in photographic guides (eg: Brazilian Trees) and research on the Internet, you must recognize the botanical group to which the branch in question belongs to then seek to identify the most appropriate photographic guides to the geographical area under review.

In the first editions plant identification course of Brazil Biome there in 2008, this key was elaborated only considering the floristic composition of the High Juquiá (Sub-Basin Iguape River) (Polisel & Franco 2010). Over time, atualizamo-in to make it possible to include the flora elements that do not occur only in this region. Recently, we made a robust test of this key directly in the field, through a fitogeográfica expedition that crossed much of the dry diagonal of Brazil over the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Pernambuco, Piauí and Goiás, over several remnants of Caatinga and Cerrado. So this is one of the first keys available to professionals essentially didactic environmental and whose objective is to recognize the arboreal botanical groups on a national scale, and including elements from various formations of vegetation.

For the case of families with more than one genre with different diagnoses, the output of the respective genres in the key has been included. In the case of the genus is monospecific (have something), the complete binomial was inserted. As the key purpose is to constitute itself as an affordable and original teaching materials, we have not included the departure of all genres for the richest families (Myrtaceae, Lauraceae and Fabaceae). Only the diagnosis to identify it in the field.

We suggest that the plant identification key is used with the use of adult branches and not from shoots or regeneration (seedlings) (for some cases there may be some imprecision in the morphological diagnosis). In addition, this key should be used with caution for copies of urban trees, as many of the species used are exotic and can not be considered in this identification key. In this case, the corresponding diagnosis included 34 exotic species, easily confused with native botanical groups included in the key.
