Its name comes from the name Apiúna - indigenous name (botocuda) whose meaning: mountain ridge rounded shaped head (hill) and dark (black).

After five years was turned into a commercial paper owned by See Publishing Ltd. Newspapers - Me, and in January 2007 was registered in the registry of the district's records Ascurra, the only printed communication registered vehicle belonging to Apiúna. Soon it turned into a truth icon in your information, a symbol of credibility.

Its target audience young and adults seeking local and regional information from the cities of Apiúna, Ascurra and micro.

Since 2007 the Cabeço Negro newspaper has been recognized in private and public research as the most widely read local newspaper of Apiúna and region.
