About CIPIAL

The first CIPIAL (International Congress Indigenous Peoples of Latin America. XIX-XXI) took place in Oaxaca, Mexico, in October 2013, and the next will be between 20 and 24 September 2016 in Santa Rosa (La Pampa) Argentina, from which time is expected to take place every two years in different countries.

This meeting seeks to strengthen relations network for cooperation of specialists in history, anthropology, ethnohistory, linguistics, law, science education and related disciplines who live in very different parts of America and Europe to meet and share progress and findings in knowledge that have been generated, new or traditional fields that are being addressed, the epistemological perspectives used and the various methodologies used for the study of indigenous peoples and at different times.

It invites those interested in participating to. while exposing some of its results, make proposals and imagine the fields of research, needs disciplinary, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary training and professional practice of the present and the future.

There are two main objectives that guide us from carrying out the first CIPIAL in Oaxaca, Mexico, 2013. First, progress in transferring the disciplinary boundaries, and in some cases our own countries, and to continue the dialogue between colleagues whose professional training represents different national and linguistic traditions in the production of knowledge. Congress also intends to open a discussion on the ethical and political issues regarding use of the knowledge generated and the participation of the same study subjects in the research process. It is also expected to contribute to overcoming visions 'parochial' that hinder a comparative perspective with other social spaces in which similar processes are developed, either between different regions and countries.

Based on what has been said, it is that we consider important to analyze about the (political, economic, social, cultural) role played societies that were forming after political independence of the various viceroys and captaincy of Spanish America , through the various Latin American republicanisms, the formation of multicultural societies, and their gradual recognition, to the demands of the various organizations and indigenous intellectuals who make up a broad debate today on the events of indigenous peoples in different dimensions.

Consider a time frame of nearly 200 years will see, in a constant coming and going (diachronic analysis), adaptations, resistors and appropriations that made indigenous societies in Latin America in the construction of identities, proposals and elements of cohesion and dissent.

Congress will meet for five days of symposia grouped in major thematic areas of the Congress.
