This application supports the implementation of the Mpumalanga Biodiversity Sector Plan (MBSP) by allowing users to:
(1) Display and query terrestrial and freshwater CBA map categories used in the MBSP;
(2) Query applicable land-use guidelines for each CBA map category;
(3) Digitise new forest or wetland patches;
(4) Record any species or road-kill observations ; and
(5) Log suspected environmental crimes (beta version).

The entire Mpumalanga Province, South Africa, has been assessed in terms of its terrestrial and freshwater biodiversity importance to meet national and provincial pattern and process targets using a systematic biodiversity planning approach. Marxan was used to identify the most efficient areas to meet biodiversity targets. The resulting CBA map categories inform the flexibility of land-use options permissible that will still support the biodiversity present at each site.

The MBSP is informed by Mpumalanga’s rich biodiversity and in an effort to continue to improve our knowledge on the distribution of our biodiversity, we have developed tools to allow users to record species observations, and even map new forest and wetland features.

The MBSP was produced by the Mpumalanga Tourism & Parks Agency (MTPA) and the Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development, Environment & Tourism (MDEDET). For more information please contact mervyn@mtpa.co.za.
