Donatien Alphonse François novel de Sade, better known in the history of literature as Marquis de Sade. The first version of the novel was written in 1787. In 1791 and 1797 two different versions of the novel was published. It is one of the most important and influential works of the author, along with The 120 Days of Sodom and Philosophy in the Bedroom.
