Kitab Al Hikam is one of the most legendary classic book works Shaykh Ibn Ata Allah al Iskandari, containing words of wisdom very high value, contains an understanding of monotheism, morality, and ma'rifatullah. A Brief History of Shaykh Ibn Athoillah

Shaykh Ibn 'Atha'illah as-Sakandari (d. 1309 AD) lived in Egypt during the reign of the Mamluk dynasty. He was born in the city of Alexandria (Alexandria), then moved to Cairo. In this city he spent his life teaching school of Imam Maliki fiqh in various intellectual institutions, among others, Al-Azhar Mosque. At the same time he is also widely known in the field of Sufism as a "master" (sheikhs) in the third major Sufi orders this Syadziliyah.
Ibn 'Ata Allah belong productive scholars. No less than 20 works ever produced. Covering the fields of Sufism, interpretation, Aqeedah, Hadith, nahwu, and usul fiqh. From some of the most famous work is the book of al-Hikam. This book is touted as his magnum opus magnum. The book has several times disyarah. Among others by Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Ibad ar Rundi, Sheikh Ahmad Zarruq, and Ahmad ibn Ajiba.

Several other books were written was Al-Tanwir fi Isqath al-Tadbir, 'Unwan at-Taufiq fi'dab al-Tariq, miftah al-Falah and Al-qaul al-Mujarrad fil al-Ism al-simplex. The latter is a response to Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah concerning the issue of monotheism. Both great scholar was indeed living in an era, and reportedly several times to engage in dialogue are of high quality and very polite. Ibn Taymiyyah was the figure of scholars who do not like the practice of Sufism. While Ibn 'Ata Allah and his followers saw not all the way Sufism was wrong. Because they are too strict in matters of shari'ah.

Ibn 'Ata Allah is known as a highly admired and clean. He became a role model for many people who pursue the path to God. Be an example to those who are sincere, and priests for the interpreter's advice.
He is known as a master or a sheikh third in tarikat environment Shadhili after the founder Abu al Hasan Ash Shadhili and his successor, Abu Al-Abbas Al-Mursi.
Although he was a key figure in a tarikat, it does not mean activity and only limited influence on the congregation intellectualism alone. Books ibn Ata Allah is widely read by Muslims from various groups, which are cross sect and tarikat, especially the book of Al Hikam this legendary.
