Mohamed Metwally El-Shaarawy (April 15, 1911 - June 17, 1998) is a former Egyptian religious scholar and endowment minister. He is considered one of the most famous interpreters of the meanings of the Noble Qur’an in the modern era, as he worked on interpreting the Noble Qur’an in simple and general ways, which made him able to reach a larger segment of Muslims in all parts of the Arab world. Some called him the imam of preachers.

He graduated in 1940, and obtained his international degree with a license in teaching in 1943. After his graduation, he was appointed to the religious institute in Tanta, then he moved to the religious institute in Zagazig and then the religious institute in Alexandria. After a long period of experience, Sheikh Al-Shaarawi moved to work in Saudi Arabia in 1950 to work as a professor of Sharia at Umm Al-Qura University. Sheikh Al-Shaarawi was forced to teach the subject of beliefs despite his specialization originally in the language, and this in itself is a great difficulty, but Sheikh Al-Shaarawi was able to prove his superiority in teaching this subject to a great degree that won the approval and appreciation of everyone. In 1963, a dispute occurred between President Gamal Abdel Nasser and King Saud.

As a result, President Gamal Abdel Nasser prevented Sheikh Al-Shaarawi from returning to Saudi Arabia again [citation needed] and was appointed in Cairo as Director of the Office of Sheikh Al-Azhar Sheikh Hassan Mamoun. When Sheikh al-Shaarawi returned to Cairo and appointed a director for the endowments of Gharbia Governorate for a period, then an agent for advocacy and thought, then an agent for Al-Azhar, then returned again to Saudi Arabia, where he Teaching at King Abdulaziz University.
