The Northern systems focus on high kicks and longer hand strikes. There are other styles like Tai Chi, Hsing Yi, Bagua zhang, Baji Quan, Shuai Jiao, which are also famous across the world. Tai Ji, Bagua zhang and Xing Yi are considered as internal styles. There are many movies which have shown the moves from most of the styles listed above.
Some famous and often heard terms like Shaolin Five animals, Southern Fist and Northern Leg, etc, have attained legendary status. The famed Five Animal style (Tiger, Leopard, Dragon, Snake and Crane) is eagerly sought by many kungfu students and practitioners. The monkey, praying mantis, eagle are the other famous animal style. Shaolin Drunken boxing / Shaolin Zui Jie Quan was made very famous by the movies that showed this style of kung fu fighting. Shaolin 18 weapons is often sought by many stylists for training. The jian (straight sword), gun (long stick), dao (broad sword) and sam jie gun (three sectional staff) are some of the weapons in the Shaolin eighteen weapons. A teacher is referred to as Sifu or Shifu and the founder of a style as Sijo. The modern day forms of Chang Quan and Nan Quan in Wushu has been created by taking techniques from the various traditional forms in the Northern and Southern Kungfu. Shaolin Meditation and Shaolin Qigong are very excellent workouts.
