"Hadji Murad" - Leo Tolstoy's novel, written in the late 1890s - early 1900s and published in 1912 after his death. The protagonist of the story - a real historical person, Hadji Murad Naib Shamil in 1851 defected to the Russian, and the following year died while attempting to flee to the mountains.
The narrator recalls the story of Hadji Murad when he sees a burr on the road, broken wheel, yet not destroyed and continues to grow.

Hadji Murad, Avar, known for bravery in the battles against the Russian in the Caucasian war, away from the Imam Shamil. He is hiding in a mountain village near the Chechen Sado, but when it will know other residents of the village, he was forced to flee further. Hadji Murad is establishing contacts with Russian troops and goes to their side with five NUKER (Avars and Chechens). With the Russian, he expects to beat Shamil and free his family, which Shamil holds hostage.
