Because it can only live by sucking on plant fluids, planthoppers become important pests in plant cultivation. Aside from being direct eaters, planthoppers are also a vector for the transmission of a number of plant diseases from the viral group.

Wereng has high adaptability to environmental conditions. In fact, a type of leafhopper can produce offspring that are resistant to certain conditions.

The use of one type of variety continuously can be one of the factors causing the planthopper pest explosion.
