The story goes that in the year 1717, the governor of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, Dom Pedro de Almeida and Portugal, Count of Assumar, passed through the city of Guaratingueta on the way to Villa Rica. For this reason, local residents wanting to entertain the guest, asked three fishermen, Domingo Garcia, Felipe Pedroso and João Alves, a fish supply.

One of the fishermen took the image to his house and made a small altar, a few years later they created an oratory, a place that was visited by all the inhabitants. On May 5, 1743, he began to build a temple, which opened on July 26, 1745, venerating the Virgin under the invocation of Our Lady Aparecida.
The city of Nuestra Señora Aparecida is located a few kilometers from Guaratinguetá, a city in São Paulo.
