Mehendi is also known as Henna or Pacar or Inai, etc. Usually Mehendi will be applied on the palms of hands and feet, because the design will look more clear on the skin. Why is that? Because Melanin pigment content is slightly (less).

Prior to application, Henna Artist will usually make a henna paste mixture made from freshly ground henna leaves by finely ground and mixed with some essential oil to get a good color. Which is then fermented terlenih first before ready to use. Then the ready paste will be inserted into a cone for ease of drawing, or using a brush, applicator bottle or stick. After 15-20 minutes, the henna will begin to dry out and crack. At this time it takes a mixture of lemon water and sugar to help and avoid paste loose and fall out. In addition the usefulness of the liquid is to help get the dark color. The henna-applied skin will be covered (wrapped) using tissue, plastic or Medical Tape to lock body heat, creating an intense color on the skin. Henna and the pack are worn for about 3 to 6 hours, or even overnight. Then the henna will be threshed. The results of the colors seen after being plucked will be pale or dark orange and will gradually darken through oxidation processes that last for 24 to 72 hours. The final color obtained is reddish brown and lasts for one to three weeks depending on the quality and type of henna paste used, as well as on the part of the body where the henna is applied (the thick skin produces a darker color than thin skin). Moisturizers with natural oils such as olive oil or coconut oil can also help the henna color last longer (used every before touching the water). Peel or scrub will make the color henna fade faster.
