As part of my final year in college we are required to produce a final year project. I have chosen to produce an Android application which incorporates Virtual Reality in order help individuals cope with their Anxieties, the environments which I have created include Presentations, Interviews, Heights and Claustrophobia.

The idea behind my concept is that practice makes perfect, but for those who suffer with these anxieties, getting the practice may seem too daunting of a task. Thus, being able to practice in a virtual environment would hopefully prove less stressful and may also help the individual to overcome their anxiety by being able to practice in a space they feel safe. Each environment has 3 levels, increasing in “difficulty”.

The environments give the user a full 360 view of the room in order to make the individual feel like they are really in the situation. I have also implemented background sounds to make the situation seem more realistic. E.g. in the Presentation Environment I have included Audience sounds etc.

Some other aspects of my application include:

An Anxiety Quiz- taken from online sources which can be used to determine whether the individual is suffering from anxiety and at what level.

An About Anxiety – a section which tells users about anxiety, its different types, symptoms and some possible treatments.

A useful Links Section – which presents the users with links to external online sites so they can gain more valuable information themselves outside of the application.

A Mindfulness Section – which discusses the importance of mindfulness, includes breathing techniques – as well as a breathing tool which uses visualizations to calm the user down in times of distress or panic. A doodle tool, which allows the user to switch off and take a break from their everyday life by means of a simple drawing tool, And a Mindfulness Environment which the user can enter a calming environment to practice meditation.

Feel free to download this application and try it for yourselves.

Please feel free to give as much feedback as possible as this will be highly constructive in determining my grade.
