The challenge is to try not to laugh
Turn on your camera and try not to laugh in this game for as long as possible. Keep your face serious, because as soon as you laugh, smile or grin, time stops and the game is over. The app will turn on your device’s front camera to track your face. Latest face detection technology and computer vision (Google's Mobile Vision face API) is used to detect in real-time if you are laughing or smiling. We challenge you to try not to laugh for as long as possible.

Beware of distractions
During the challenge, the app will try to distract you from the goal of trying not to smile. A variety of jokes, short videos and funny animated GIFs from Giphy are displayed randomly, trying to make you laugh. Also other special effects, like augmented reality masks are applied, turning your face into a clown or animal.

The rules
The rules are simple in this app that challenges you to try not to laugh. First of all: do not laugh. It is also not allowed to turn your face away from the camera, so that you are forced to watch all the fun that is presented during the game (sorry). The last rule is to keep your face serious for as long as possible. The app will keep track of the time and save your personal high score.

The science of laughing
Smiling is our natural response to pleasure or fun. It reduces our stress levels and boosts our health. So, happiness makes us smile, but it also works the other way around: faking a smile can make us happy and reduce our stress levels. Even though this all sounds very healthy, a few minutes without smiling during a ‘try not to laugh’-challenge will not hurt. So, are you ready to play?

Ready?
Are you ready to hold your laugh? Start the challenge and find out for how long you can control your smile!
