WHAT IS AYURVEDA?
Ayurveda (literary "life-knowledge") is a medical system of ancient India and one of the oldest medical systems known in the world. For several millenniums Ayurveda methods have been checked and perfected on millions of patients. Ayurvedic methods are natural and they take a person’s individual peculiarities into consideration unlike other western medicine methods. Thus, they are more effective and safe. Ayurveda is aimed not only at diseases treatment but also at causes elimination and prevention. It treats not a disease, but a person. As Ayurveda puts it, our health is a state of ideal balance between three elemental substances (body energies), which are called doshas, and a combination of body, mind and consciousness balance.

According to Ayurveda, a human is a small miniature of the Universe, and everything that exists in the Universe is represented in human body in one form or another. The diversity of essence in the Universe and in human being consists of 5 elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether (Space). Five elements in pairs make three dynamic energies called doshas. Sanskrit word "dosha" means "something that changes" or "something that can be out of balance".
The correlation of doshas constantly changes keeping up the dynamic balance. These doshas are called Vata (Ether+Air), Pitta (Fire+Water) and Kapha (Earth+Water).

Every person is born with unique combination of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It determines a person’s physical characteristics, his weak and strong points. Under the influence of external factors (climate, weather, age, nutrition, way of life etc.) the doshas balance in human organism may change. Every dosha should be necessarily balanced, i.e. dosha quantity coming from outside should be equal to dosha quantity coming out of organism. If dosha comes in excessive quantity, it accumulates in the organism and may cause diseases. Ayurvedic treatment is aimed at balancing doshas, i.e. at removing doshas excesses (if any) and maintaining the balance in future.
