Scroll Phonics: Three-Letter Words is the world’s first self-teaching reading app designed specifically for both adult native English speakers with low or no reading ability, & non-native ESL/EFL learners. Beginning with the letters of the alphabet, users of this simple phonics & literacy app teach themselves how to make sounds & short words by combining sounds in different ways. As they progress through the levels, users naturally learn the basic rules of phonics and reading without help from a physical teacher.
Individually scrolling wheels let users play with sounds, learn new words & actually teach themselves how to read… Instantly! Users can simply click on pictures or letters to hear words spoken with native, smooth pronunciation.
Scroll Phonics is different – and perfectly suited for literacy programs everywhere – for the following three reasons:
1. Scroll Phonics has no spoken or written English prompts, instructions or explanations, so anyone anywhere can begin using the app, even with no knowledge of the English language. Furthermore, simple icons, rather than the complex, confusing images featured in most learning programs, make the meanings of words automatic to understand, even for non-native English learners & speakers. Scroll Phonics really is the ideal program for self-study, no native English teacher required.
2. Rather than explaining the rules of phonics & reading, Scroll Phonics helps players to develop an understanding of how sounds can be combined through exploration. Players test different sound combinations to build a strong understanding of reading rules naturally. By having the freedom to play with a limited number of sound combinations, players develop reading confidence quickly.
3. The app’s user interface & gameplay are simple & intuitive. Players can begin learning – and receive feedback throughout the game – instantly, without waiting for unnecessary animations or loading screens.
Scroll Phonics has nine game levels, each focusing on different letter sounds, & four playable modes for each level.
Explore Mode
Lets players test a range of sound combinations to create words. As words are discovered, their corresponding images appear. All found sounds & words will be listed in the app’s word bank so players know which sounds they still have left to find.
Find Mode
Begins testing the player by showing a randomly selected image on the screen representing a word that must be made by the player. This tests memory & the ability of players to place letters in the right order when they hear a word spoken.
Listen Mode
Continues the testing of the Find Mode, but with only the sound of the image played. In this mode, players must listen carefully to make the correct word without the help of the image. When the correct word is created on the scrolling wheels, the image appears to reinforce learning.
Test Mode
Removes tests the player’s ability to listen to sounds and spell words, but with bubbles that float around the screen instead of scrolling wheels. In this mode, players must demonstrate an understanding of letter order to produce words. When letters are selected in the right order to form correct words, the player proves their ability to understand the phonics rule being tested, and builds confidence knowing that they’ve learned how to read.
