Dadubhai Patel was born on June 12, 1918. Exceptional as a child, it was obvious that he had a divine destiny. Affectionately known as Dadukaka or Kakaji, he lived a life of perfect devotion to Lord Swaminarayan, and was an example of unfaltering friendliness.

On February 3, 1952, by the grace of Yogi Bapa, Kakaji went into a 3-day samaadhi at the Gondal temple in front of the moorti of Ghanshyam Maharaj. His body was medically dead, while his soul traveled to all the heavens, culminating in the highest abode of Akshardham. There he saw Lord Swaminarayan "in-person" and also saw that Lord Swaminarayan resided in gunaateeta saints, his gurus Shastriji Maharaj and Yogi Bapa. Returning to his body, Kakaji now possessed unlimited supernatural powers. He was able to see and hear things many miles away, he knew the past, future, and present, he could make impossible tasks possible, and he raised to great spiritual heights everyone that came into his contact.

Yogi Bapa's mission was to make educated youths into saints, thus creating qualified "spiritual technicians." In the midst of great resistance, Kakaji made the youths ready to walk the spiritual path.

At the time, very few had complete unflinching faith in Yogi Bapa. But as a result of Kakaji's unparalleled conviction, Yogi Bapa instructed Kakaji that it was time that women also be given the opportunity to dedicate their lives to serving God in the Akshar-Purushottam Swaminarayan branch. In the face of great hardships, Kakaji, his older brother Babubhai (Papaji), and Sonaba, created a separate establishment so that women had the opportunity to lead dedicated lives and achieve the highest spiritual state.

The Gunatit Samaj consists of this branch, along with a branch for saints under the guidance of Hariprasad Swamiji and Aksharvihari Swamiji, and a branch for dedicated aspirant brothers under Jashbhai Saheb.
