For musical training, an important aspect is to be able to tell pitch accuracy. Aside from instruments that are not convenient to tune (such as piano), most musicians need to develop precision in pitching. As of now I have problem finding a reliable intonation training app, so here is my own effort. This is the first stage - train for intonation accuracy, starting with hearing a note 2 times. The second note may be identical to the first, but it may be higher or lower.
As a process of training, the difference is rather big. I set it at 1/4 tone (half-way between a semitone), then progress by narrowing the difference. However, note pitching is not always even-tempered. So I set the smallest difference at 1/16, at which point key-oriented pitch tempering can render pitching may render it moot.
As a general guideline, students should train to hear difference up to the "Intermediate" level, which is 1/8 tone. Advance level students should train for more sensitivity, down to 1/16 tone.
