The inventory aims to raise, identify, record and disseminate the attractions, services and tourist facilities, the tourism support structures, the management bodies and other items and conditions that enable tourism.

To carry out the INVTUR is necessary to follow a methodology defined by the Ministry of Tourism that guides to the identification of the tourist possibilities of the municipalities. According to the Ministry of Tourism (2011) the proposed methodology for the inventory of tourism supply is adaptable to the conditions of each municipality, respecting the autonomy of local government in the conduct of its policy and its development. Thus, the search can be carried out by institutions, businesses, professionals and employees, if properly qualified and fit for the purpose.

The tourist inventory is organized into three categories: a) infrastructure to support tourism which includes facilities, public and private; services and tourist facilities, b) set of institutions and service providers that give conditions for the visitor to have a good stay (accommodation, meals, entertainment, transportation, agency ...) and c) tourist attractions which are the elements of nature, culture and society - places, events, objects, people, actions that motivate someone out of his place of residence to meet them or experience them. Currently this process is effected manualmene through standard documents defined by the Ministry of Tourism, totaling more than 100 types of collection forms, which, in turn, generate data on the municipality relating to: means of access, information system, security system, health system, educational system, support services, and services and hospitality equipment, food and beverage, tourism agencies, tourist transportation, leisure and events. The forms for natural and cultural attractions according to its kind.

It is understood that for realization of this the use of Information Technology (IT) is critical because automates and improves the collection and validation of data coupled with mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones enables geo-referencing by GPS technology embedded and image capture a digital camera.

The digital data allow more productive in completing the inventory, combined with spatial analysis, can provide a comprehensive interpretation, enabling the crossing of information gathered for a diagnosis of the local productive arrajo situation.
