Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi (KPT) telah melancarkan Pelan Tindakan Memartabatkan Bahasa Melayu sebagai Bahasa Ilmu di Universiti Awam 2016-2020 pada tahun 2016. Pelan ini bertujuan untuk memastikan kedudukan bahasa Melayu dalam sektor pendidikan tinggi terus diperkukuh selaras dengan Perlembagaan serta sebagai pembentuk jati diri bangsa Malaysia dan generasi akan datang. Seminar Mendaulatkan Bahasa Melayu sebagai Bahasa Ilmu dianjurkan sebagai salah satu usaha menggalakkan ahli akademik dan penjawat awam memperkaya dan memperluas penggunaan bahasa Melayu dalam pelbagai disiplin ilmu. Seminar pada tahun ini akan dilaksanakan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM) dengan kerjasama Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) dan Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP). Seminar ini akan dirasmikan oleh YB Menteri Pendidikan Malaysia dan menyasarkan penyertaan dalam kalangan ahli akademik, warga KPM, penjawat awam dari pelbagai agensi/kementerian, pemimpin pelajar serta penggiat industri. Seminar Mendaulatkan Bahasa Melayu sebagai Bahasa Ilmu tahun 2018 dilaksanakan berdasarkan objektif berikut: 1. berkongsi ilmu dan pengalaman tokoh bahasa Melayu tempatan dan antarabangsa dalam usaha mendepani cabaran Era Revolusi Industri Keempat; 2. meningkatkan kesedaran mengenai kepentingan mendaulatkan bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa ilmu dalam kalangan ahli akademik dan penjawat awam; 3. mendapatkan pencerahan bagi isu berkaitan bahasa Melayu melalui forum ilmiah; dan 4. menyebarluaskan maklumat dan inisiatif KPM dalam usaha mendaulatkan bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa ilmu kepada semua peserta yang hadir.
