“Wakeup Call” for all the Jain Community and Religious Leaders to raise the awareness regarding the importance of correct enumeration of Jain population well before the next census in 2021.

As per census, Jainism is India’s 6th largest religion with only 44,51, 753 (0.56% of total population) Jains in the 1.21 billion population of India. The population size of the Jains has been a matter of concern within the community, and several believe that the Jain community is much bigger in size, than what the Indian Census data reflects. The influence of Jainism has been far greater on the Indian population than these numbers suggest.

We understand from our search that, not even a single accurate data regarding Jain population in India is recorded. Lack of accurate data threatens our Jain community placing us in disadvantageous position not only in the present society, but also threatens our future generations. It will also lead our community to be merged with other category as per census report, if it comes to minuscule level.

Hence, it is foremost responsibility of the Jain community to prepare itself well for the next census to ensure better recording of our population. It is important that all individual or family or the community record its religious identity in Government and other records correctly and insist that they are recorded as Jains and not be clubbed with some other religion.

It is of immense value to Jain Community Leaders to identify and analyze not only the size and growth of the population, but also know the socio-cultural, religious activities, and economic aspects of the population under study.

To set right the lack of accurate data along with both economical and social problems, Tamilnadu Jain Sangh Trust has determined to take a noble and important initiative to carry out the Jain census.

To start with TNJST, is starting this exercise from Chennai. To facilitate individuals to quickly enter the data we have developed this mobile application in Android platform. Request you to down load and enter your data.
