Childhood is part of the famous trilogy of Leo Tolstoy's childhood. Adolescence. Youth. The protagonist Nikolenka at the time, as the narrative begins, is only 10 years old. The author has devoted much time to details, which makes this work very interesting.

In those times, about which Tolstoy writes, children at a young age were already beginning to receive a serious education. To do this, you had to leave the house and go to the Lyceum, or to another educational institution. Then, after studying, such a person could serve for the benefit of the Motherland. Nicholas in the story Childhood understands that through this it is necessary to pass to him. There is very little time left, and my father will take him to the capital. But now he is surrounded by people close to him, carefree and happy time and while they can fully enjoy.

Immediately from the first chapters of the story Destvo together with Nikolenka, the reader is immersed in the atmosphere of the noble way of life of the late XIX century. The world of childhood of the main character, described by Leo Tolstoy, is associated with his tutors and domestic people. The closest thing to the boy is his teacher of German descent, Karl Ivanovich. Acquaintance with him Tolstoy opens the story.
