The Elemental Box is a one of a kind invention that based on 21 st century learning skills.
The Elemental Box can be used as a science subject educational tool in schools and can be
published in the market. The Elemental Box is based on the periodic table and its main
purpose is to help students to study the elements in the periodic table effectively. There are
118 elements in the periodic table which has been categorized into a few groups. With the
use of The Elemental Box, students can learn creatively and interactively.
The Elemental Box is complete with a 3D cylinder framework, an app (The Elemental Box)
and a website (www.iconic2711.wixsite.com/theelementalbox) that are completely self
made. The 3D framework is created in a cylinder shape because it is formed by the points at
a fixed distance from a given line segment, which is known as the **** of the cylinder. A
normal periodic table is usually in a 2D rectangle shape, so when it is converted into a 3D
model, the rectangle shape can be adjusted to become the **** of the cylinder. The
hexagon-shaped elements in the framework are drawn in the CAD software according to the
accurate size and shape. The whole framework takes about not more than one day to print
out.
On the other hand, an app is created to allow students to answer the provided questions.
First, there will be a short introduction of the elements in the periodic table (this is the time
for the teachers to explain further). Next, the questions will be shown. If the correct answer
is pressed, the answer box will turn green. However, it will turn red if the answer is wrong.
At the same time, the app will interact with the Bluetooth module which will be connected
to an Arduino Mega to allow the stepper motor to control the rotation of the 3D framework
by rotating it to a certain position. The LEDs on the certain group of elements will then light
up, indicating the correct position of the group. Teachers can also use this period to explain
more to the students. The quantity and type of questions asked can be changed according
to the users’ liking through the website. On the website, users can choose their own
questions from a selection of more than 100 questions. Users will be able to create a
‘bundle’ full of their own questions, those questions then will be sent to us. We will create a
specific code for each user according to the questions within the next 24 hours. This can
allow the users to upload the questions right away.
The unique thing about The Elemental Box is that students who are blind but has the
capability of hearing can use it too. The Elemental Box has a special ‘slot in’ template for
phones that consists braille letters, allowing blind students to be able to use it. Besides, The
Elemental Box is created based on students’ learning style. The three main types of learning
styles that The Elemental Box is focusing on are the Auditory Learning, Visual Learning and
Kinesthetic Learning:
1. Auditory Learning: Students can listen to the questions and read the questions that are
shown on the phone screen at the same time. Answers will also be announced through the
speaker to help auditory learner can remember the answers well.
2. Visual Learning: Students can see the questions and answers that are shown on the
screen while using The Elemental Box. They can understand more about the elements in the
periodic table through the pictures that are shown on the screen.

3. Kinesthetic Learning: Students can interact with each other in a group and make learning
more interesting but not boring.
