Anna Karenina is a work by Leo Tolstoy about the tragic love of the married lady Anna Karenina and the officer Vronsky against the background of the happy family life of the nobles. Impressive picture of the mores and way of life of the ancient environment of St. Petersburg and Moscow in the second half of the XIX century. Anna Karenina's novel combines Levin's philosophical reflections (altogether Leo Tolstoy) with psychological sketches in Russian classical literature, as well as scenes from the life of ordinary peasants.

In 1870, Tolstoy conceived a novel about the private life and relations of contemporaries. However, the implementation of his plan began only in February 1873. The novel was published in parts. The first part was printed at the end of 1875. Gradually Anna Karenina's novel turned into a social fundamental work, which was very successful. The continuation of the novel was awaited with impatience. The novel Anna Karenina, written by Leo Tolstoy, was completed in 1877.

The last chapter of the work ended with the death of Karenina, at the end it said: "the sequel follows." The last part was corrected by Strakhov, and a censorship was issued on June 25, 1877. Narrative Anna Karenina began with a verified pause: "It's been almost two months. It was already half a hot summer. " It was already a matter of the Serbo-Montenegro-Turkish war, to which Vronsky was sent.
