To calculate the number of seeds to be distributed, it is necessary to know the germination of the seed lot. This information is provided by the company where the seeds were purchased, however this value (% germination) may be greater than the value of seed emergence in the field. Therefore it is recommended that test one field emergence. Therefore, from a representative sample, four separate sub-samples of 100 seeds each. These should be sown to a depth of 3 to 5 cm in soil prepared in four rows of four each m. Soil moisture should be maintained at a level adequate for emergencies, during the execution of the evaluation. Counting is made on each of four lines, where plants are the first pair of leaves completely open (approximately 10 days after seeding), considering only the vigorous. The percentage of field emergence will be the arithmetic mean of the number of emerged plants per meter of row.

The number of plants / linear meter to be obtained in the crop is estimated taking into account the population of plants / ha and the desired spacing.
