Emotional exercise is practised by everyone from top athletes to highly successful business leaders. You’ve heard the phrase ‘it’s all in your head’? They’re not wrong. Your happiness and your health are intrinsically linked to what’s going on up there in that big brain of yours.

Talking out your thoughts and feelings with someone else regularly is a great way to improve your emotional fitness and to feel happier. It’s a valuable form of proactive therapy for your everyday emotions.

Talking helps you to get new perspectives from the weird and wonderful lives we all lead. It’s a healthy way to relax, unwind, destress or work through ideas. It can even help build essential social and career skills, plus develop empathy and your understanding of others.

To help you do this we blended a little bit of Scandinavian culture, with some positive psychology and the science of flourishing and resilience, and with patent-pending anonymous matching and profiling technology. Then, we put it into the Fika App to take emotional fitness to the world.

We all know the importance of working out to maintain our physical fitness. But, let's be honest, we’re nowhere near as good at making the time to proactively care for our emotions, or for those of our friends.

We’re on a mission to make exercising your emotions as common as exercising your body. We’re doing this to help us make time for ourselves, for our friends and to really open up our emotional throttles and see where we can go. It's time for emotional fitness.

A Fika exercise is simple. It starts with a question. One you choose from the many that we’ve provided, or one that you write yourself in a chat with a Fika friend.

Fika exercises are designed to help you emotionally challenge and push yourself. They might help you work through something that you’ve previously not opened up about, as a means of building your emotional resilience. Or, by visualising your goals, increasing your focus and motivation, part of what scientists call flourishing.

Gratitude’s a powerful emotional tool that you can sharpen in Fika too. By putting your attention on the good stuff in your life you can refocus, you can get your mind off the things that might be troubling you and you can begin to feel happier.

Once you’ve chosen your daily Fika exercise you then spend a short amount of time (5 to 10 minutes) emotionally working out over that question. You can Fika on your own. Or, with someone else by taking turns to talk and listen; either face to face, or with an anonymous Fika friend in a chat or timed anonymous voice call.

Fika is a safe, moderated community full of everyday people who enjoy the therapeutic power of talking and listening to each other as a means of building emotional fitness. Our anonymous matching means that you can find and connect with likeminded Fika friends whilst safeguarding your privacy and anonymity.

Fika is built on trust and respect for each other’s privacy. There is zero tolerance for bad behaviour. Reporting, blocking and banning tools keep the community safe. Offending phone numbers and emails are banned for life.

We know it’s not always easy to get started so we provide training guides and coaching to help you get stuck in. What are you waiting for? Jump in.

Exercise your emotions. Be happier.
