Belo Monte, the southern city of Minas Gerais, with its mountains relief has always faced difficulties in communication between the inhabitants of the numerous rural districts and those residing in the urban area. With strategic vision and the desire to better serve the population, Father Reinaldo Marques Rezende conceived in October 1996 the creation of a community radio station. Having the support of the community montebelense, managed the resources to purchase the transmitter and other equipment to begin broadcasting the testing of future Community Radio 106.1 FM Montana with makeshift headquarters in the backyard of the Parish House. Involved the community in the project from start performing referendum to choose the name of the radio, opened the public hearing to select the speakers among young people and adults living in Belo Monte. Even without grants and documents necessary for the operation of Community Radio, on November 30, 1996 at 16 am started transmission with the Red music with the interpretation of Fafá de Belém. A bold start gave the letters of what would in the following years in terms of fights and challenges for the documents and the award for legalized operation. There were numerous financial and technical problems faced by the announcers team radio and founder of Montebelense Broadcasting Association, not to mention the difficulties to deal with the program schedule and the operation of said radio.
All on the basis of good will and dedication of many people in the community, totally unprepared most being for such activities.
         The Community Radio Montana with your promotions, birthday shows, educational campaigns and other events that mobilized montebelense and neighboring cities population was soon recognized as a public utility by the City Council. The audience reached by the programming of Montana was something notorious in the region, considering it is an inexperienced team, moved only by the desire to evolve and learn while serving and pleasing the listeners.
         Finally it was created the Educational Foundation and cultural Monte Belo who became the sponsor of the Educational Radio with grants released by the Ministry of Communications for the frequency 95.9 FM. From there the Montana was consolidating in audience and new achievements (power increase, renovated headquarters with adequate studios, more powerful equipment and transmitters, exchange rate to 100.1 FM and then to 107.9 FM).
         Today directed by Father Lawrence Arnoldo Barbosa, the Montana is increasingly gaining Belo Monte and the entire region with its programming that besides entertainment is providing service, news, sports and music.
