This app can be useful for anyone who thinks he may be dealing with an application that is suspected to contain asbestos. Asbestos can be present in many places, like houses, offices, schools, commercial buildings, etc. That is why you have to be alert at all times!

In case of doubt, you can use the app to make a first estimation about the material you are dealing with by answering a few simple questions. The app also offers you guidelines as to which steps have to be undertaken when there is a suspicion that an application may contain asbestos.

Asbestos is a generic term for a group of natural materials (fibrous silicates) that were widely used in the past because of their exceptional properties. Asbestos is responsible for many different health risks, especially when the fibres are released and inhaled. The symptoms can take up to 30 or 40 years to arise.

The risk of inhaling asbestos fibres depends on the extent to which the fibres are bonded in other materials. That is why you should never break or damage materials that contain asbestos.

Even though the risks of asbestos exposure are identical, the legislation makes a distinction between asbestos applications in private and professional contexts. Different procedures have to be applied. The app can be used for both situations.

Attention: the app is a tool, not a decisive test. Asbestos can never be identified with certainty with the naked eye. Tests by an authorised laboratory have to be conducted in order to identify asbestos, so always remain careful and call upon a professional when needed!
