Eugene Onegin - a novel in the poems of the Russian poet Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, written in 1823-1830, is one of the most significant works of Russian literature. The narration is conducted on behalf of the nameless author, who introduced himself as Onegin's good friend.

Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin worked on this novel Eugene Onegin for over seven years. The novel was, according to the poet, "the fruit of the mind of cold observations and the heart of woeful notes." Work on it, Pushkin called a feat - from his creative legacy only "Boris Godunov", he characterized the same word. In the work of Eugene Onegin on the broad background of paintings of Russian life shows the dramatic fate of representatives of the Russian nobility of the first quarter of the XIX century.

Pushkin began work as a novel by Eugene Onegin in May 1823 in Chisinau, during his exile. The author rejected romanticism as the leading creative method and began to write a realistic novel in verse, although in the first chapters the influence of Romanticism is still noticeable. Initially it was assumed that the novel in verse will consist of 9 chapters, but later Pushkin reworked its structure, leaving only 8 chapters. He excluded from the main text of the work the chapter Travel of Eugene Onegin, including its fragments as an attachment to the main text. There was a fragment of this chapter where, according to some information, Eugene Onegin described the military settlements near the Odessa pier, and then there were comments and judgments, in some places in too harsh a tone. Fearing possible persecution of the authorities, Pushkin destroyed this fragment.
