The ADA/EASD consensus was drawn up by the international associations ADA and EASD and uses evidence-based data regarding the use of glucose-lowering medications in adults with type 2 diabetes with the aim of avoiding acute and chronic diabetes complications, as well as improving the quality of life. In the glucose-lowering treatment of type 2 diabetes, the healthcare provider can choose between different classes of medicines.

The T2D Helper app searches the ADA/EASD consensus for the most appropriate glucose lowering therapy and displays it in a clear format, taking into account co-morbidities such as atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), heart failure, chronic kidney disease and weight problems. In addition, there is a function available in the T2D Helper app that takes into account the Belgian reimbursement rules (which apply on January 1, 2025). The forms required to apply for reimbursement of the medicines as well as the package leaflets of the medicines are available in PDF format.

The software does not provide medical advice, it is not a decision support tool, but is a pure search tool that can be used to efficiently search the existing international ADA/EASD consensus. The app is intended for healthcare professionals, healthcare institutions, students, etc.

UZ Leuven owns the T2D Helper app. UZ Leuven, Endocrinology department, Herestraat 49, 3000 Leuven, Belgium.

An update of the app will be carried out when the landscape of treatments for type 2 diabetes changes and when the reimbursement criteria in Belgium change.
