This thrush measures 23 cm in length, has a straight beak of an olive-yellow color, gray paws, a black eye finely surrounded by yellow and a dusky brownish-brown back. It is an important disperser of seeds of the fruit species that it consumes, because it either regurgitates the seeds in other places or they leave in their fertilizing feces and with that they become more apt for germination. Like other species in his family, he can gather in mixed flocks that employ different strategies to improve his chances of good food, which gives him an adaptive advantage for the occupation of degraded and urban areas.

There are not many records in the specialized literature of natural enemies of the orange thrush, but it has already been observed that the toucan Ramphastos dicolorus prey on young and even adult specimens. In urban areas the domestic cat is an important predator. In some regions it is threatened by habitat destruction and wild animal trafficking.
