Padi is a legendary music group from Indonesia whose members consist of Ari (guitar), Fadly (vocals), Yoyo (drums), Rindra (bass), and Piyu (guitar). This music group made their debut in the Indonesian music world in the late 1990s through Sobat's single in the indie ten compilation album, and is considered to bring new colors in the Indonesian music world. The chosen music path is pop-rock-creative. At the beginning of its appearance, Padi music style was often compared to U2 and Radiohead.

The main motor of this group is Piyu, which performs the central function of a music composer and lyric almost all songs. But the main strength of Padi lies in mastering the instruments of the personnel who have the character and technical abilities far above the average musician in various Indonesian bands. Rice personnel are filled with champions of various musical instrument championships. After being in a vacuum, Piyu chose to develop his own creativity, while other personnel formed Musikimia who underwent independent musical processes.
Formed on April 8, 1997, this group is an art creativity forum for five students at Airlangga University, Surabaya. Originally called 'Soda', it was later changed to 'Padi' ("People's rice is difficult," said one of his personalities). This name was chosen because it is "very grounded". Furthermore, they not only took the philosophy, the more it contained the lowering, but also saw its function symbolizing well-being.

Starting from playing music from one stage to another, the group was finally contracted to enter the recording world.

Padi's albums were quite successful in penetrating the Indonesian music market. Some observers concluded that the rice music arrangement was dynamic and more complex than the average song by the same Indonesian band, which was one of the causes of this success. At the beginning of its appearance in 1998 the repertoire of Indonesian bands was dominated by songs with simple arrangements with medium tempo which tended to be slow.

Another feature of Indonesian music groups at that time was the dominant keyboard instrument in leading bands. Keyboard / organ characters affect the style of music to be minimal distortion and tend to be melodic. This is evident in the bands that hit hits like Kahitna, Dewa 19 with their Five Pandawa albums, and Slank shortly before the reformation of the formation where Indra Q still appeared as a keyboardist.
