The memory of the body was published in 1993 in Beirut and won the Naguib Mahfouz Award for 1998. The novel deals with the story of the young Algerian Khaled, who was a hero of the revolution of 1945 in Algeria against French rapists. He was a brave soldier in the al-Tahir Brigades. Khaled lost his hand in his last battle on Algerian soil or perhaps his last-minute battle. His last and deadly battle would be twenty years later.
