DANCE OF THE PLANETS began as a piece for live performance that we premiered in the small desert town of Blue Diamond, Nevada at Steven's annual music festival, Jam at the Barn. Each performer had a paper-mache planet hat, a guitar, and a click track in their ear that corresponded to their planet's orbit speed. In collaboration with creative coder (and occasional Desert Magic bass player) Luke Williams and designer Stephanie Layton, we then developed the piece into an interactive application with options to activate, deactivate, and randomize planet rotation to create solar system soundscapes that unfold differently every time. Dance of the Planets is available in the iOS, Mac, and Android app stores. Have a sun-tastic journey! Thanks for listening!
