12 Tones is versatile tool for ear training as well as learning basic mathematical number relations.

12 Tones generates a grid using given rules where each cell has a number corresponding to a musical pitch.

12 Tones is a tool that can visualize a customizable grid of numbers. It is designed to be an educational aide in learning the musical pitch relations as well as executing several mathematical procedures like multiplication, addition, subtraction, etc. with visual and audio output.

The divider number means the value where formula returns to zero.
In purely musical usage it is useful to be set to 12, where numbers represented
in a grid are between 0 and 11. If the divider value is set as for example 100 then the
numbers represented in a grid are between 0 and 99.

Playback is limited to one octave (or a major seventh). The lowest note is C and highest is B. If divider is set to any value above 12 then playback returns to the same C pitch as zero. Therefore 0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84 etc. are played as same pitch C. If you play pitches along with any instrument please feel free to choose your own octave ranges. Feel free to jump between octaves.

The app visualizes and simplifies musical structures in a way that they can be easily understood mathematically by their numerical relations. These relations can be recognized by hearing and calculating without the need for previous musical knowledge.

The other side of this idea is to create a musical relationship between numerical
values. Sounding pitches might give a new approach to simple elementary
mathematical exercises. Also the ability to click on each to cell to have it coloured can be useful when working with numerical tables.

The naming mode of the cells can be switched between numbers and traditional
musical names for sharp notes and flat notes.

Program includes the following features:
• generates a grid of numbers corresponding to musical pitches
• clicking each cell can produce a playback sound
• intervals between adjacent cells can be customized in any value between 1-12 (in both directions, horizontal X and vertical Y)
• Even and odd numbers can be coloured differently (green/red)
• Grid size can be adjusted from minimum 1 x 1 cell up to 24 x 24 cells.
• Infinite playback of selected cells (continuous loop) and a timed fade option.
• Customizable cell offset allows to separate adjacent cells from each other
• The grid with it's selected cells can be saved as an image in high resolution
