The financier and economist-analyst Pavel Nikolaevich Apostol, whose achievements in the field of the theory of finance are known to many, became one of the most reverent keepers of Russian culture in exile. Bibliophile and bibliographer, the Apostle was one of the founders and leaders of the Society of Friends of Russian ’books in Paris, whose main task was the exhibition of Russian books abroad.

In the preface to this edition, G. K. Lukomsky writes the following: “Muscovy! In the concept of foreigners who went to this distant, mysterious, snowy region - is central Russia only? Or the south with the golden-headed Kiev, and Arkhangelsk fish, and the Caspian Sea muddy, and Siberia with the fur-bearing animals, and the Caucasus? All this, taken together. Borders were not clearly delineated ™ The borders of the country where polar bears roam, where the snow lies in thick veils, where people eat raw meat, and even eat each other!
