Argument
It represents his historical vision of the United States (which is called "American Empire" on multiple occasions compared to the Roman Empire and others like the British). It is basically centered on history since the interwar period, the Second World War, the Cold War, the fall of the communist bloc, globalization, the attacks of September 11, the war on terrorism and the economic crisis of 2008.

It deals with specific sensitive facts in American opinion such as the Missile Crisis in Cuba, the Assassination of John F. Kennedy, the Vietnam War, September 11, the Iraq War among others. He speaks of historical figures as foreign as Stalin or Mikhail Gorbachev and other nationals such as Henry Wallace. But the backbone of the documentary is all the US presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Obama, of those who describe their management chronologically as they came to the government. In the documentaries he constantly uses images of the time and fragments of films.

The vision that transmits of the international role of the United States is particularly bad, although totally real and it tells how numerous high positions of the government (and other agencies like the CIA, the Pentagon ...) perpetrated coup d'etats, assassinations, invasions, genocides, destabilizations, economic war and espionage with countries perceived as a threat to the US, often to defend US interests. According to your point of view, examples of these interventions would be:

The atomic bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki (1945) were unnecessary because Japan was already defeated and unconditional surrender was being negotiated.
Intervene in the Korean War (1950-53) to avoid supposedly fulfilling the Domino Theory.
Economic and espionage war and arms race against the USSR and against China.
Support for the 1953 Coup d'État in Iran.
Support for the 1954 coup in Guatemala.
Destabilization of the Congo (1960-66) and death of Lumumba (1961)
Support for the 1964 Brazilian Coup.

American occupation of the Dominican Republic (1965-1966).
