SHOROF is a science that has the function of recognizing basic word forms in Arabic and recognizing the way they are changed according to the meaning that is intended to be produced by interpreting them. This basic word in Arabic is a past verb.

TASHRIF is developing the meaning of the basic word by changing the basic pattern of words to the patterns which formation is arranged in the science of sharia.

BASIC WORD
The basic word / origin of the word in Arabic consists of 3 letters and there are 4 letters. Most of the origin of the word in Arabic is consisting of three letters, then given the term Tsulatsi. This measurement is measured by the sound of the FA-'A-LA arrangement of letters in Arabic is فَـعَــلَ. Furthermore, the arrangement of letters is called the FI'IL skillet

Let's look at the example of Tsulatsi from the following words:
كَتَبَ = فَعَلَ ، فَهِمَ = فَعِلَ ، شَرُفَ = فَعُلَ
The 3 examples indicate that the basic word pattern or pattern in Arabic has only 3 patterns. With the same arrangement of letters, namely FA-'AIN and LAM. Then what makes it 3 patterns is the line or line that is in 'AIN. From the 3 examples above, the first one 'AIN was given a satanal fathah, the second was given a doubtful response and the third was given a doubtful dlommah.

Each letter is named according to its position. In the example of the KA-TA-BA word, then the train because it is in the FA position, then it is named FA FI'IL, TA because it is in the 'ain position then given the name' AIN FI'IL and BA because it is in the LAM position, then given the name LAM FI'IL

Basic words consisting of 4 letters are called RUBA'I. RUBA'I is measured by the sound of the FA'-LA-LA and the arrangement of letters in Arabic is فـعـلل and this is a fi'il wazan pattern from Ruba'i. Let's look at the following RUBA'I example:

  فَعْلَلَ = دَحْرَج
This basic word pattern for RUBA'I has only one pattern, namely FA'LALA. From the example above, the sounds from DAH are FA and 'AIN FI'IL, RA is EARLY FIELD LAM (the first fi'il first) and JA is LAM FI'IL TSANI (second fi'il lam).

From the description above, it can be concluded that there are two kinds of basic words in Arabic. The first is called Tsulasi which is divided into 3 patterns and the second is Ruba'i which only has one pattern.

Both tsulatsi and ruba'i are divided into two categories, namely; MUJARROD and MAZIED.

MUJARROD is a basic word that has no additional letters in its basic pattern or still remains in the sound and arrangement of letters like the examples that have been mentioned above.

MAZIED is a basic word that has been modified by adding letters, both tsulatsi and ruba'i. Letters that are added can be one, two or three letters and the maximum letters that are in the basic word after adding the letters are 6 letters which are referred to as SUDASI.

Each of tsulatsi and ruba'i, whether mujarrod or mazied, is divided into FI'IL SALIM and FI'IL GOIR SALIM.
