In Japanese mythology, Susanoo, the powerful summer storm, is the brother of Amaterasu, the goddess of the Sun, and Tsukuyomi, the god of the Moon. The three were born of Izanagi, when he washed his face to purify himself of his stay in the Yomi, the underworld. Amaterasu was born when Izanagi washed his left eye, Tsukuyomi was born when he washed his right eye and Susanoo was born when he washed his nose. Susanoo used the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi as a weapon.

Amaterasu, The goddess of the koji sun

Mythology of Amaterasu, According to it is told in the Kojiki, the Megami (Kami in female) was born from the left eye of Izanagi when he was purified after his failed attempt to rescue Izanami, born in a similar way his brothers Susano and Tsukuyomi. The Kojiki describes it as the Mega from which all the light emanates, and in numerous occasions it is referred to as the Mega of the sun by the warmth and compassion for those who adore it.

Then Susanowo-no-Mikoto descended from Heaven and proceeded to the birth of the Hi River, in the province of Izumo. There he found an old man and an old woman. Among them was a young woman whom they cared for and those who lamented. Susanowo-no-Mikoto asked them, saying "Who are you, and why do you regret?" The answer was: "I am an earthly deity, and my name is Ashi-nadzuchi. My wife's name is Te-nadzuchi. This girl is our daughter, and her name is Kushi-nada-hime. The reason for our crying is that before we had eight children, daughters. But they were devoured year after year by an eight-headed snake and now the time is coming for it to devour it. There is no way to escape and therefore we lament. " Susanowo-no-Mikoto said: "If so, will you give me your daughter?" He answered and said: "I will fulfill your request and I will give it to you." Therefore, Susanowo-no-Mikoto immediately changed Kushi-nada-hime into a comb of many teeth that was placed in her bun. Then he made Ashi-nadzuchi and Te-nadzuchi prepare sake eight times, make eight cabinets and in each one put a bathtub full with sake, and wait for his arrival. When the time came, the serpent appeared. It had eight heads and eight tails; his eyes were red, like a winter cherry; and on his back grew firs and cypresses. As it crawled, the space of eight hills and eight valleys extended. Now when he arrived and found the serve, each head drank from a bathtub, got drunk and fell asleep. Then Susanowoo-no-Mikoto pulled out the ten-fisted sword she was carrying and cut the snake into small pieces. When at the tail, the edge of his sword had small notches, so he opened his tail and examined it. There was a sword inside. This is the sword that is called Kusa-nagi no tsurugi.
