God Bless is a rock band that has become a legend in Indonesia. The decade of the 1970s could be considered as their glorious years. One proof of their big name was when God Bless was chosen as the opening concert of the world's legendary rock group, Deep Purple in Jakarta (1975).

1970s era

The founding of God Bless began with the return of Ahmad "Iyek" Albar back to the country after several years living in the Netherlands, he dreamed of forming his own more serious band. He returned from the Netherlands together with Ludwig Lemans (guitarist Clover Leaf, band Iyek while still in the Netherlands). Iyek then invited (the deceased) Fuad Hassan (drum) and Donny Fattah (bass) to form a band. This is the background of the establishment of Crazy Wheels, before finally the band - which held its first concert at TIM (Taman Ismail Marzuki) and then took part in the musical "Summer '28", a kind of Indonesian-style 'Woodstock' at Ragunan, Jakarta, which was joined by various bands from Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines - changed their name to God Bless on May 5, 1973.

Jockie Surjoprajogo (keyboard) himself joined Crazy Wheels / God Bless in early 1973. He was intended as a replacement for Deddy Dores - who had joined God Bless but did not last long in the band because he had to take care of his own band, Rhapsodia. But Jockie also can't last long. His position was replaced by (deceased) Soman Lubis.

In June 1974, Fuad Hasan and Soman Lubis (keyboard) had a traffic accident at Tugu Pancoran, South Jakarta. God Bless also went through a period of mourning. Plus, the guitarist Ludwig Lemans also decided to leave God Bless. Thus, the remaining personnel were Ahmad Albar and Donny Fattah. To fill the gap in the keyboard, they invited Jockie to rejoin. Jockie then invited Ian Antono (guitar) and Teddy Sujaya (drums) to join God Bless.

To commemorate Fuad Hassan and Soman Lubis, God Bless performed in TIM with the theme of commemorating one hundred days of Fuad Hasan and Soman Lubis with the attraction of carrying coffins on the stage.

At first, God Bless was not a band that had songs. They were only bands that used to perform songs from other people, such as Kansas, Easy Beast, Genesis, Deep Purple, at each of their performances. The entry of this legendary band into the recording kitchen began with trial and error. They write songs, and then record them. They recorded it in a studio managed by Alex Kumara (broadcast expert). These recordings can reach the ears of PT Aquarius Musikindo because Suryoko - Aquarius boss - often learns guitar at Ian's house. They both have been friends for a long time. And in 1975, God Bless released its first album.
