As a first activity with Pairs show the set of cards face-up and invite a child to identify two cards with the same number.
This will familiarise them with the idea behind the activity that what is being matched is not the image itself but the idea behind the image – the concept of equivalence.
Later, they can progress to playing the game with the cards face down.
Use the options button to set the range of numbers used.
