MaxAltitude (for phones only; the app's Camera Mode is not designed for Tablet-sized devices) is a specially-designed app for estimating the altitude reached by your model rocket. The user first determines the ground distance from the launch pad to the observation point (either by manual entry or by using the app's pedometer or the GPS-assisted distance finder). The user then simply aims his/her device at the rocket during its flight. The flight's altitude data can then be labelled and stored for future reference.

To Use MaxAltitude:

1. Go to Launch Setup and choose your preferred Distance Units (metres or feet)

2. Choose one of the Ground Distance Input options to enter the Ground Distance from the launch pad to where you will be standing to observe the launch. The altitude measurement becomes more accurate the futher away you are from the launch pad. Aim for a ground distance roughly similar to how high you expect your rocket to fly. Please note, GPS locations are usually only accurate enough to use for distances over 300m/900ft.

3. Once you've entered your Ground Distance you will be taken to the app's Camera Mode screen.

4. Position your device so that the rocket is on the screen level with the two arrows. When the rocket reaches its maximum altitude, tap the right arrow to save the flight's data.

5. Tap the right arrow again to reset.

6. Some users may find that "Sextant Mode" yields more accurate results. Tap "Change to Sextant Mode" to do so.

7. To use Sextant Mode, hold your device at arm's length with the screen or a long side edge facing the sky.

8. When the rocket is launched, follow the rocket's ascent, lining up your device's screen top or long edge like a sextant - "gunsight-style" - between your eye and the rocket.

9. At peak altitude, with your free hand tap the Altitude reading. This will freeze the readout and offer to save the maximum altitude figure.

10. Tap the Altitude display again to reset.
